Ways You Can Help Colorado HRS

There are many ways you can help the bunnies. The list of possibilities is varied and includes: membership renewal, recycling, shopping online, writing grants, saving juice cans, setting up donation jars, donating play pens, buying/selling a home, and/or matching donations.

1) Renew Your National Membership

When it's time to renew your membership with National HRS, please send your check for $18.00 to us at the Colorado House Rabbit Society. When you renew in this manner, the Colorado HRS can keep $3.00 of the membership fee. We will forward the remaining $15.00 to National. Either way, the membership charge to you is $18.00. Make your check payable to Colorado HRS and mail it to PO Box 238, Broomfield, CO 80038-0238.

2) Recycle through Colorado HRS

Please donate your used printer cartridges, drum cartridges and old cell phones to Colorado HRS. These can be sold for recycling. You may leave them with any of the volunteers at the supply pick-up points or bring them to the shelter in Broomfield. There will be a box in the supply pick-up room labeled, “Recycle Cartridges Here.” This is another great way for you to help the bunnies at no cost to you. Spread the word to your employer, friends and family. If your company would like a specially marked box to collect their cartridges, please contact Kay at kay@coloradohrs.com.

4) Grant Writers Needed

Finding funds to operate a shelter, or any non-profit organization, is always difficult. While our members are generous in their financial support, more money is needed. If anyone has experience in writing grant requests and would like to donate their expertise, please contact Carol Thielen at cjthielen@cox.net.

5) Save Juice Cans

Save your small, hard (not aluminum) juice cans. (Cranberry and grapefruit juices usually come in them.) These are used to make bunny toys. Bring the clean cans to the shelter or drop them off at one of the supply pick up points.

6) Setup and/or Manage Donation Jar Program

We are currently searching for someone who would like to administer a program in which donation jars are placed in various retail establishments. If you work somewhere that we can place a donation jar, please contact Debby Schmidt at (970) 690-0292 or debbysch@quixnet.net.

7) Donate Play Pens

The Colorado HRS is in need of baby playpens. The type we are seeking are about four feet square with mesh sides and a plastic mat covering the bottom. If you have one or see one at a garage sale, PLEASE remember us. The pens are exceptionally useful when we must nurse a bunny who is tumbling with severe head tilt. The soft sides keep him contained and prevent him from injuring himself.

8) Buy and/or Sell a Home

Valerie Agnew, a real estate agent for Metro Brokers Inc., and Laura Haven with WR Starkey Mortgage, have offered to create a fundraising partnership with the Colorado HRS. When Valerie represents you on the purchase of a new home or the sale of your current home, she will donate $500.00 to the Colorado House Rabbit Society when you close the sale. Laura Haven will donate $200.00 when you obtain a loan through WR Starkey Mortgage. This is a great way for you to donate to the Colorado House Rabbit Society without spending any of your own money. Contact Valerie at (303) 359-6418 or agnew1st@msn.com. Laura can be reached at (720) 489-0710.
